A Bamboo Bridge to Nowhere

A bamboo bridge crossing a river, surrounded by rice paddies.

My unexpected bamboo bridge © A. Harrison

I've always loved this photo, mainly for the memories it evokes.

A rickety bridge in the middle of nowhere, and we crossed it on a Vespa

The heavens a glorious blue, rice paddies stretching to the horizon. The humidity dripping from the sky. Somewhere in the middle of Vietnam, and on the far side of the bridge I shared snacks from a local market with some tourists from Paris, struggling bravely on in French.

Later that night we’d discover floating lanterns.

As one does in Vietnam.
