Surf's Up

One surfer catches a wave as others watch, with the shore in the distance

No matter how large the swell, there's always someone who makes it looks easy. And these were five metres swells coming off the tail end of a tropical cyclone. My glasses were blown off my head as I took photos.

And on shore? A crowd on the edge of the camping ground watching. A typical Aussie afternoon. Many sat in their chairs with a beer in hand; one guy was in the back of his kombi, boot open, playing a guitar. The smell of sausages cooking on the barbie wafted over me, along with the tang of salt which filled the air.

Everyone simply enjoying the spectacle.
